Because of the grabbing vocals, catchy lyrics, and skillful music, Kelly Clarkson has fast become a hit sensation. Although she has been compared to female vocalists such as Ashlee Simpson, Avril Lavign, and Gwen Stefani, she has by far surpassed them with sheer talent.

There are several different times in which I wanted to, or did, jump up and start rocking out and partying in my room while I was listening to Breakaway. One of these moments was, of course, during the breakout hit, Since U Been Gone. Also, Kelly Clarkson has an amazing vocal range, which she takes advantage of, especially on some of the slower songs like Addicted or Where Is Your Heart. Another great thing about this album is that there is never a low point or a song that just isn’t very good because there is so much energy and musical variety packed into each and every song. This album is an instant winner. The first time that I realized this CD is great was during my drive home from the store at which I bought Breakaway. During the first chorus of the title track, Breakaway, I knew that this would quickly become one of my favorite albums just because it really truly rocks!

Everyone needs a little bit of criticism to get better though. Although Since U Been Gone is a really fun song, it doesn’t sport the best lyrics on the CD. It is just kind of a cheesy song that was written for an ex-boyfriend to say that she is over him. Also, to some, the songs might start to sound the same after a while because of some of the similarities between songs like Since U Been Gone and Hear Me, because they have a similar intensity and similar musical qualities.

Some might not like this album because it isn’t really a “Christian” CD, but there is really nothing objectionable about the lyrics (except some might not like the use of the word "damn" on Because of You), and this isn’t “angry music” at all. It is just pop music at its best. I would recommend Breakaway to anyone because somehow, everyone seems to like Kelly Clarkson whether he or she is a rocker, rapper, or anything in between.
