Jason Ingram / Resonate Records

After a several year absence, Jason Ingram is back (this time without the “Band” and dropping the country flavor that characterized his debut), and fans of folk-rock/pop should be happy about it. The first artist signed to Sonicflood’s new Resonate Records label, Ingram brings a strong acoustic rock rhythm (akin to Jars of Clay or Caedmon’s Call) to the table.

In this self-titled album, several songs shine. “I’m Rich, I’m Poor” starts off the CD well, with an upbeat affirmation of Christ’s sufficiency and an interesting and ethereal choral background. The vertically focused, “The Wonder of Your Grace,” is a praise-and-worship radio hit waiting to happen (no surprise given the fact that Ingram got his start in music as worship leader for his home church in Santa Cruz, California). Other strong melodies are the gentle prayers, “Restore Me,” and “I Love You Lord.”

In the current climate of best-selling worship albums, expect Jason Ingram to be an important addition to the groundswell of praise.

FAMILYFANS RATING: B+
