Greg Long / Myrrh Records It’s been three years
since Greg Long last released an album, and apparently those “years in
hiding” have done this man good. His latest album, Now,
showcases a Greg Long who’s got a new sense of maturity and confidence
that’s a pleasure to hear. Seeming to have finally
gotten a handle on that unique, pop-tenor voice of his, Long shows it in the
strength of his vocals on songs like “Sufficiency of Grace” and “I Won’t
Take You for Granted.” Both these melodies are ear-pleasing, radio-friendly
expressions reminiscent of artists like 4Him or Clay Crosse. Fans of
Greg-Long-as-balladeer won’t be disappointed either. His tender delivery on
“In the Waiting” and the plea to “Help Someone Cry” are touching moments
on this album as well. Still, “We Dream of a Kingdom” will probably be the
ballad that really helps somebody cry! This forward-looking melody effectively
turns our eyes toward the heaven that awaits—toward the place “where grace
and mercy conquers all.” Overall, this CD is
evidence that Long has finally risen to the level of his talent. Now has everything pop music fans will enjoy: easily accessible
music, lyrical strength, and inspiring songs. So if you’re looking for new
music that’s also comfortingly familiar, indulge yourself in the Now.
You’ll be glad you did. --Mike Nappa ### |
